This island was designed to fill the space in the kitchen that was under utilized. The homeowners wanted a large work surface and room for three to sit. They wanted a spice rack on one end and a small bookcase on the other, with a large area for slide-out shelves for the big appliances that are hard to store.

The end result was an island that supported a granite top coming in at 72" x 42". The granite overhang is supported by three steel brackets anchored to the front of the cabinets. The spice rack and drawers ride on Blum Tandem undermount full-extension soft-close drawer slides, for a solid, smooth operation.
